We will try to draw a line from early colonial practices of administering slaves to the current administrative practices in development politics. Is there a line of continuity? And if yes: Which role play administrators, auditors and accountants in this process? In four sessions, we wanted to investigate the history of “post colonial bureaucracies”. Our questions were: Does a thing like this exist? Or is this simply a kind of administrative racism of the bureaucrats in the centre in relation to the bureaucrats at the periphery? Are there certain tropes, how bureaucracies develop?
