David audited charities and NGOs around the world for twenty-five years. Over the last twelve years he has trained hundreds of audit firms in the area of NGO audit. He has found that the quality of NGO audits and the attitude of the audit profession to that sector are almost universally poor, in firms of all sizes.
David audited charities and NGOs around the world for twenty-five years. Over the last twelve years he has trained hundreds of audit firms in the area of NGO audit. He has found that the quality of NGO audits and the attitude of the audit profession to that sector are almost universally poor, in firms of all sizes.
This training draws on that experience to create a ten-week online course leading to a FAUNA Certificate in NGO Audit that will be the quality mark for those who can provide the best service to the NGO sector.
In ten sessions delivered over ten weeks (22 January – 26 March 2021), the course covers all aspects of the NGO/auditor relationship from hints for successful tendering, through best practice in acceptance, quality control and audit planning to looking at key risk areas, compliance auditing and best practice in reporting. Each session is intended to be 1 hour long, depending on the level of interaction by participants.
The course assumes that participants already have a good knowledge of audit planning and execution. It does not cover all aspects of the audit but focuses on how to adapt and extend a commercial audit approach to apply better to the NGO sector. It is unlikely to be appropriate for unqualified audit staff. Those who will gain most from it are likely to be audit managers and partners.
